If you have attended an event recently, you would have probably been asked to fill-in one of those post event satisfaction surveys (or tried avoiding it). Conducting post surveys is a common way to collect feedback and areas of improvement. However, did you know it could also be helpful for your team’s collaboration?

With virtual collaboration becoming the norm, one of the main concerns teams face is the lack of interaction and sense check. When participants to a meeting are always-on-mute, camera off, it is difficult to assess any level of engagement, and whether meeting objectives have been met.

We do not want to take participants’ silence as a yes. During our co-creation sessions, we regularly use pre and post event surveys, with a little twist.

In order to create a meaningful agenda, pre-session surveys are useful in testing the grounds to gage expectations. With their quick set-up and turnaround, they can help adjust agenda, content and delivery.

Some examples of questions you can use for your pre-session survey:

  1. What do you hope to gain out of this session?

  2. What is the one thing you would like to learn most?

  3. What is the one thing you would not want to spend time on?

Suggestion: Create an anonymous survey to get truthful insights.

At the end of your session, it is also a good idea to conduct a post-session survey to close the loop and gauge the actual effectiveness of the work done. This is also a good time to gather feedback and make your next session a better one.

Some examples of questions you can use for your post-session survey:

  1. How well did today’s session meet your objectives?

  2. Do you feel you had an opportunity to contribute as much as you wanted to?

  3. How confident are you about the ideas born out of the session today?

  4. What would have made the session better?

There are many applications on Microsoft Teams that enable you to seamlessly gather responses. Simply add a survey application (such as MS Forms, SurveyMonkey or Polly) into your channel, and it will be available to everyone. Team members will be able to complete the survey within MS Teams without having to enter a separate browser.
